for the main event of the reading year to begin (I hope!), I am trying to read some of the books on my stacks/shelves that are not suitable for Halloween Bingo:

Devil’s Brood is the last book in Penman’s Plantagenet series that I have not read.
I started it a couple of nights ago and quickly remembered why I love this series.

The knives are out between Eleanor and Henry as well as their sons.
It’s highly-strung family drama and I love it.

I am really going to miss these characters once I finish the book.

Does anyone know if her Welsh Princes series is equally addictive?

Alligator Playground is a collection of short stories by Sillitoe that I picked up from the library.

I have only read the first one so far, and am verging on dnf’ing the collection but want to give
another couple of stories a chance. At least, they are bound to be shorter than the first one which
was around 80 pages of tedium.

However, if I don’t finish this before the official (or any unofficial) start of any Halloween reading games (I’m hoping
there will be another bingo this year????), then this is going back to the library without any regrets.

What is everyone else up to?
